Many construction, demolition and renovation projects have taken place throughout the life of La Ferté-Vidame Castle, which has belonged to famous historical figures such as the Duke of Saint-Simon, the Marquis of Laborde or King Louis-Philippe. Of the renovations carried out in the 18th and 19th centuries, all that remains today is the ruined castle, the general outline of the park, and the rooms of what Louis-Philippe called the "Petit Château". The site has seen major renovation and maintenance work, funded by the Conseil Général d'Eure-et-Loir, in order to become accessible to the public.
