Jean Sébastien had a pleasant childhood in the Nîmes sunshine before making his way to the capital city to study at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Appliqués. He left four years later with the jury's congratulations and a reputation for nonconformist ideas. His final project, on the planned obsolescence of objects, formed the starting point for 5.5's founding project. It was on his initiative that the 5.5 Collective was created to further his "censored" reflections on the concept of the medicine of objects.
Still reflecting on how to practice his future craft as a designer, the Nîmois student decided to pursue studies at the Arts et Métiers, where he earned a Master of Advanced Studies in the Product Design and Innovation Laboratory. This year of theoretical studies gave him a taste for multidisciplinary projects and confirmed his desire to practice a design approach that gives priority to substance rather than to form.
